Situated at the confluence of the Kettle and Granby Rivers in the southern interior, the City of Grand Forks showcases some of the most beautiful heritage buildings in the province.  Located in the “Boundary” area of the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary, the City of Grand Forks is home to 4,000 residents, with a trading area of 8,000 people.  The area offers an abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities from river rafting, hiking, and fishing in the summer, to downhill and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing in the winter.  While Grand Forks is a smaller community, it is a “full service” municipality. With a view of taking the organization to the next level, the City is looking to attract a progressive and accomplished professional as Deputy Fire Chief Training and Operations.

Reporting to the Fire Chief, the Deputy Chief of Training and Operations alongside the DC of Fire Prevention and Life Safety plays an integral role in providing emergency services for our community. The Deputy Fire Chief of Operations is responsible for providing excellent leadership for a progressive fire department of 48 volunteer personnel, proactively seeking opportunities for improving departmental efficiencies and service levels.

The Deputy Fire Chief of Training / Operations reports to the Fire Chief and is responsible for formulating, implementing and administrating the training program to all fire department personnel.  In the absence of the Fire Chief, this position will be required to carry out those administrative duties.  This position is operational and will be expected to respond to emergency calls as well as assist with inspections, fire investigations, and fire prevention activities.

The position will be of interest to fire professionals who have proven leadership abilities, well developed organization skills and effective communication and public relation skills. The preferred candidate will have a minimum of 10 years firefighting experience and fire officer II, or equivalent experience; with 5 years at a senior fire command level and experience with training in the fire service. Skill and experience working with volunteer firefighters is essential.

This is a full – time exempt position offering a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Hours of work for this position are 40 hours per week.
