Under the general direction of the Manager of Operations or designate and the immediate direction of the Public Works Coordinator or designate, the Operator 2 is generally responsible for the operation and routine maintenance of City equipment to facilitate the maintenance and upkeep of the City’s roads, sidewalks, parks and cemetery.
We expect applicants to have knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials and techniques necessary for the position such as:
- Planting, care and maintenance of all shrubs, flowers, planters and hanging baskets owned by the City.
- Assisting with the operation, inspection, repairs and maintenance of all City-owned irrigation systems.
- Ensuring watering schedules for the parks and flower beds, including system computer monitoring.
Additional training in local government administration, asset management, or other related systems would be an asset. Formal education should be complemented by current training in relevant safety courses like WHMIS and First Aid. The successful candidate will have demonstrated safe work practices and possess necessary knowledge of safety practices, procedures, and occupational hazards. We’re hoping you’ll have two (2) years’ relevant experience in a similar role.
This position is a part of CUPE Local 4728 and subject to all parts of the Collective Agreement. The wage rate for this position as per the Collective Agreement is $31.23 per hour. This position will work 40 hours per week from April 1 to October 30, 2018.
